DanceFAR was founded in 2012 by San Francisco Ballet dancers Garen Scribner, James Sofranko and Margaret Karl to support the work of the Cancer Prevention Institute of California (CPIC). DanceFAR gives back to the community and encourages volunteerism by providing a platform for artists to contribute to good causes by sharing their talents. This special benefit performance and party has raised over $350,000 to date for CPIC.
The inaugural DanceFAR performance (originally called Get in Front) took place June 6th, 2012 to a sold-out house of over 900 seats at the Herbst Theater in San Francisco and featured an after-party in the legendary Green Room.
From 2013-2015, DanceFAR has been held in the Yerba Buena Center for the Arts Theater with the after party in the YBCA Forum for all ticket holders, featuring food and drinks donated from local restaurants and wineries. The DanceFAR after party has featured Epic Roasthouse, Anchor & Hope, Waterbar, Wayfare Tavern, Luke’s Local, Salt House, 25 Lusk, Farallon, Hoopla, Odette, and Le Grand Courtage.
