Dance offers a new perspective to view the world. Our mission is to use dance to engage and inform our audiences on global issues and raise funds to benefit charitable organizations. Each performance will include the Bay Area’s most celebrated dance companies and will feature works from today’s top choreographers. By making these issues visible through dance, we encourage people to view them through a different lens and to inspire us all to get involved.
DanceFAR 2019 is bringing awareness and raising funds for two wonderful organizations
DanceFAR’s 2019 performance will be held at the beautiful Herbst Theater in San Francisco, California on Saturday, September 7th, 2019 benefitting the International Rescue Committee and Gugulethu Ballet Project. This performance will include eight of the Bay Area’s most celebrated dance companies and will feature works from today’s top choreographers. DanceFAR 2019’s proceeds not only benefit the immediate needs of refugees, but also provides education and opportunities to empower impoverished youth through dance.
Gugulethu Ballet Project
THE MISSION of Gugulethu Ballet Project is to bring the art of classical ballet to the children and youth of South African townships. Through the study of ballet, including contemporary forms built upon classical foundations, children and youth learn personal discipline, respect for themselves and others, artistic expression, resilience, and focus.
Building on more than a decade of positive experience, Gugulethu Ballet Project has extended opportunities for exceptionally gifted youth from South African townships to study on scholarships in the United States and pursue professional careers. Such success stories inspire the next generation, especially as young professionals return to their communities to mentor and teach.
